Packaging design for the sex-positive community called HOWL.

 

Introduction:

HOWL was born out of a queer-inclusive art and techno performance festival in London in 2019. Its ethos was built on the foundations of bringing together LGBTQ+ collectives from different scenes across the UK under one roof.

HOWL has now grown into a sex-positive community for all genders and sexualities inspiring human collaboration, new interactions, breaking down taboos through education and facilitating liberation through exploration.

Brief:

Design Packaging for LGBTQ+ CBD lube brand that was born out of a queer-inclusive art and techno performance festival in London in 2019.

 

Project Deliverable Role:

Create an art piece to encompass the box, generate digital 3D prototypes, produce print-ready design files, develop a website, and generate assets for social media.

Ideation & Process:

Creating a mind map:

  • What do I associate with lube? Fluidity, water, silicone, enveloping.

  • What colour palette would be the sexiest, most gender-neutral, LGBTQ+ friendly, suitable with the existing HOWL festival vibe?

  • Collecting references and making a mood board for the client to better explain

    my vision.

 

Designing and prototyping:

I’ve produced a total of 53 variations, below is the selection of directions the client was happy with.

Concept proposal:

I have proposed an idea in which, each time the lube goes out of stock, HOWL would collaborate with a different LGBTQ+ representative to design the next edition. This approach would make the packaging collectible, serve as an external promotional source, and, most importantly, foster community engagement.

AR Face Filter

Additionally, I have developed an augmented reality (AR) face filter for the HOWL Instagram account, aiming to raise awareness about HOWL by encouraging the audience to submit their predictions.
